1. Eliminating the Inclusion Risk: Why We Test Every Fitting
One of the biggest risks in the industry is the presence of internal material defects known as inclusions. In the past, defective bar stock has led to catastrophic disasters when these inclusions caused fittings to fail under pressure.
To protect your system, Penn Machine strictly follows mandatory Liquid Penetrant (LP) and Magnetic Particle Examinations for fittings made from bar stock.
How it works: We use fluorescent dyes and ultraviolet light to highlight surface defects.
The Result: You receive components certified to be free from the defects that stop fluid or gas flow in its tracks.
2. Nitrogen-Enhanced Stainless
If your project requires welding but doesn’t allow for post-weld heat treatment, you face a risk of sensitization and intergranular corrosion.
We solve this by utilizing Nitrogen (N) in our stainless steel.
The Benefit: Adding just 0.1% Nitrogen helps eliminate microstructure impurities after welding without needing a subsequent solution anneal.
The Outcome: It acts as an insurance policy for your field welds, ensuring long-term corrosion resistance.
3. Sour Service Ready: Meeting NACE-MRO175 Every Time
Hydrogen under pressure is one of the most punishing environments for any metal. If a fitting is too hard, it becomes brittle and cracks severely.
Penn Machine takes the guesswork out of procurement by ensuring our 300-series stainless and carbon fittings are supplied below a 22 Rockwell C hardness.
Carbon Fittings: We report hardness on A234 items (even when not required by spec) to help you determine your post-weld heat treatment needs.
Reliability: By meeting these strict hardness requirements, our fittings are ready for immediate use in sour service environments.
